15 hens, 15 eggs!! Total 100% egg laying!!

I have to brag on my girls!! 15 laying hens and today I retrieved 15 eggs!! That's crazy!!!! The weather last week and this week has been nuts!!  30's last night, 80s during the day yesterday. Today was low 60's.  Tonight will be 37°.  Its half way through April and its acting like March!! Oklahoma is so crazy with season changes. Mother nature is bi polar in the spring and fall. She goes back and forth for 2 months and then which season you are in, is On 100%.

Following up Mid May. All hens are laying so well now. When you start getting frustrated  about  freeloaders, just take a deep breathe and wait for better weather in the spring.  My breeder pens were producing 1 or 2 eggs a day, now almost all 15 hens are laying. I have had to ask someone to incubate some of my eggs because I ran out or room!!

Do you sell your eggs? I have to start, I have over 100 eggs laid a week. I have been giving them all away for a couple years but now I would love to make some money to pay for the feed bill. I see fresh farm eggs being sold on all the chicken facebook pages and on Craigslist. Not sure the best strategy to share them with people. They can also be hatching eggs if anyone wants barnyard mixes or Easter Eggers with the blue eggs.  I know when I became addicted to incubating, I was cooking all eggs!! didnt care what I got.  That habit left me with a gaggle of 100 free rangers! Now I am more organized and only want certain breeds and certain egg colors.

I have had 2 EE the last few days trying to become broody.  They pick the 93 degree days to sit in a hot hen house! Crazy birds!! I shoo them out of there and take their eggs, they are still going back in to check it out. 2 days ago while collecting the eggs under them, one dropped a brown egg out from under her wing.  I havent had the best expierence with broody's.  I had one in the past that had 8 babies and killed each one in their 2nd week.  I will stick to the incubator and grow out pens.
