Building a Barndominium Foundation Poured on Barn: Week 15 Day 3
Well, it poured rain all night and into the morning. 53 degrees when we woke up, predicted to be 85 degrees today. We just cannot win with all the rain! We really need to dry out all the construction site! The gravel on the drive keeps sinking in with the weight of the heavy trucks, its like the earth is eating it! So, rain, rain go away!! It was suppose to stop by 8:00am. Our concrete guy called and pushed back the cement trucks until 10:00 am, my fingers were crossed!!
At around 9:00 am the sun came out and dried up all the rain, then the itsy-bitsy JUST KIDDING. It stopped and they ended up being able to pour the foundation of my 30 x 40 shop/barn. Last week they did the footings and prepped the area for the pour. That black plastic tarp looking barrier is called a Silt Fence. This is to help with trap soil and sediment but also allow moisture to move through. Ever seen those spots that come up on the cement floor, kind of frothy foam? Yep, that wont be happening to this shop! Don't you just love watching that "fun fan thing" smooth out the wet cement? I do too!
I am so relived!! We might, just might have a structure erected that is water tight and secure to move in with all our furniture! It will seriously be a miracle if we can get this all pulled off. 15 days until we move out to the property.
Now, I am OK with living in a camper while my Barndo is built. I am not OK with moving furniture twice!! So lets talk about that. Yes, I said in an camper! I am actually looking forward to it. Smaller space may get on our nerves but we do love being close to the kids, heck, the little one still sleeps with us so whats the difference? Did I tell you he's 9?!? Add 3 dogs to the mix, now we have a party!!
They are finishing the footings to the Barndo today as well and plan to pour the foundation at 4:00 am on Thursday. Last week with all the rain, the plumber had to come back out and cover all the pipes again with the sand, the water washed it away. He did another test on the pipes and we were good to go. We will need to rent a pump truck for Thursday's pour. All this mushy ground, the cement truck cannot pull into the pad area for the pour, so up and over is the best practice. Hey, we just want to get it done!!
We are doing concrete floors in the living area. I do not want any stain or seal. I want real raw but smooth concrete. With all the allergies, kids and puppies, it will work out the best. It also really goes with the soft industrial or vintage industrial interior look I am hoping for. I cannot wait to see the process to make the floor super smooth and polished. It only is getting better and better, every day is an opportunity to see our future more clearly!
