Building a Barndominium: We have Power! Week 15 Day 1
Happy Mother's Day!! I was asked what I wanted to do today so I thought about it and really need to visit the land and move some more gardening and fencing materials. Every little bit helps, so we loaded more big heavy cement pots (the ones I was drooling over for years!), and kennel fence panels I use for my chicken run. Every chance I get to see my new paradise, it gives me more ideas...things I can build...chickens I can breed..more garden space...bigger goat paddock...
As we pull down the road to our house, windows down, sunshine shining, it all seemed so much more real. Up ahead was the cutest site. A mama and baby Boer goat eating the greens on the side of the road, as we got close they jumped back into their side of the barbwire fence. So super cute!!
As we pull in the driveway we almost didn't notice an awesome achievement!! We had telephone poles with electric ran!!! I had feared it would look horrible, like huge eye sores on this little piece of Heaven on earth, but it didn't, kind of just blended well with the ridge line. Tucked nice and tight in with the contour of the tree line.
Now I can change my plans in my head, we WILL have power when we live out here. That means we can have AC and can run my incubator! THE WORLD IS ALL OK NOW! In all actuality, I have not put any new eggs in since before May 1st. The timeline is to close on our house closing was so close to hatching dates, I really didn't know if I would have electric for brooder plates and lights. But 2019 Spring can carry on starting May 30th!
There was 3 large piles of millings that Parker just had to sink his feet into. He actually did a little dance on top of the mound, so cute. The view up here is amazing!! You can see all of South Tulsa and even see downtown!
The Barn is completely ready for the pour. I love how we tucked it into an area of woods. Strategically placed for the goats and chicken paddock to have shade and timber area to eat and scratch around.
Im already planning my raised beds to go to the west of said paddock. It has been so hard not planting a month ago. I did start 5 varieties of tomatoes in flats, hope they stay healthy until I can get them in the ground. I planned on using the "Back to Eden" or "Ruth Stout" but we are solid clay and rock. I think the raised beds help the immediate need until I can get out there and try to grow good spoil. Cant wait until Thursday's pour!
