Escape Goat...No Really Like gone, lost in the woods!
I had brought them home in a large dog kennel in the back of the Yukon, Yes...I now all the pee and poops!! You do what you got to do!! The boys went bass fishing and took the truck! When you have to get goats..YOU HAVE TO GET GOATS!! Its an obsession, its a HAVE TO, its a WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM. You think Chicken hoarding is bad, just start on goats, you will see!

Sweet Kiko baby goats! |
So, I grabbed the black and white baby and she started to kick and squirm. I put her down towards the ground so I can get a better grip before I put her in her new pen. NOPE! Didn't happen. She wiggled and jumped out of my arms at ground level and bolted into the thick woods!! Gone, like didn't hear or see her within a second!! I took the all white girl out, carried her over and locked her in the pen. Poor little white goat baby. All alone and crying. She wouldn't eat, drink, or even look at me!

Poor little lonely girl! |
I called the farmer we got her from to get suggestions so we started yelling "here goat-goat" while shaking the feed bucket and whistling. All around the barnyard. She had never been here before so I'm a fool to think she would stick around or come back. Both Goats are really skittish, which makes sense, they were weaned a month ago and out to pasture with their Moms. We searched until it was completely dark, not anywhere to be found.

Babylove helping look for the baby goat |
Sunday morning we woke up early and went out around the the ranch searching for her. I mean hours of shaking buckets, yelling and whistling. I checked all the creeks and standing water for her hoof prints or droppings, NOTHING! Besides being 100° out, I worried about predators, wondered if she even made if through the night!! I kept driving to our 3 different neighbors checking their pens to see if she heard them and wanted to find a friend since she is a herding animal. She is only a 4 month old baby goat! The woods can be a cold dark scary place! Everyone I spoke to said" Aww, she will come back". Come back to what? She doesn't know our voices, our smells, our property or even our existing goats noises. I was feeling so sad and hopeless.
Monday morning we searched everywhere again, multiple times. I was thinking about going and pulling all our game cameras to see if she might have made it to the feeder areas all the way in the back of the ranch. Around noon my sweet neighbor called and told me she has been hearing a goat cry in the woods beside he house! She check her pen and they were all accounted for. She heard it several times. So Preston and I went on a mission! We got the dog leash and feed bucket and explored their property.
There is a large pond and we hoped she was back there trying to find water. About half way down to the pond we found a clue! Some white tufts of hair on the barbwire fence!! We were feeling hopeful and got our excitement back. After 5 rounds of searching her property, I gave up, never heard her cry myself. No weird looking white blurs hidden anywhere.

Could it be Goat or Fluffy the Dog? |
Its been 2 days now, hope is dwindling, wild animals could have gotten her. I was feeling even worse, so sad not knowing if she was ok. Lesson has been learned. All goats will be on a collar and leash before removed from kennels or trucks. Never again will I just pick them up and carrying them.
On a lighter note, the boys had a great day fishing with Dada!
